The Signal - Goose Byte

Tutorial

During my time at Goose Byte, several iterations of the game tutorial took place over a period of eight months. My contributions included, but were not limited to:

Learning basic movement

Balancing

I was also responsible for balancing several aspects of the game:

- The economy of resources, crafting, and base construction

- The economy of research points and the skill tree

- The loot tables of enemies and resources

- Weapon stats (with Alejandro Cordoba)

- Enemy stats and behaviors (with Samuel Séguin)

All of this was documented in a Google Sheet shared with the rest of the team, as well as on our wiki hosted on Confluence.

Documentation

When I joined The Signal, all game information was scattered across Miro boards and sticky notes.

Using Confluence, I created a wiki that consolidated:

  • All information related to game balancing

  • Game loops and how they are interconnected

  • Resources, associated recipes, and their locations

  • Enemies and all associated information

  • Sections for tracking the progression of the game’s story
